Ligue 1 week 27: Olympique Marseille 1-5 Paris Saint-Germain
This is the worst defeat for Marseille at home in 64 years and against its biggest rival. There was no game tonight as PSG took control of the game after a mere 5 minutes. A pale Marseille side supported by almost 65,000 fans who should have stayed home instead of watching this debacle. After 1y6 minutes the match was over at 2-0 and then Lucas put the dagger right after the break 3-0. Marseille squad must be ashamed of its performance and turmoils are likely to start between the fans and the club.
Emery, PSG coach speaks to the media:
“We wanted the three points to close in again on Monaco and Nice. The team is good, we’re in a good spell. We have to maintain that level of rigour, that rhythm, the desire of the players and that domination of the ball. It’s a good game for our confidence and to confirm the improvement in our play. It’s a good spell for us, but we can still improve. We mustn’t forget our last three home games, of which we drew two and won the match against Lille in the last minute. There are a lot of teams that defend deep. We have to overcome our opponents’ defensive work. We’re going to keep working.”
Matuidi, PSG midfileder added:
“We put on a good performance, we were serious. We knew they were going to try and press us in the first 15-20 minutes, but we handled it well. It’s a great win. We dedicate it to our fans. It’s brilliant! When I was little, I dreamed of playing games like that one. I’m happy. We have to keep going like that. There are other very good teams with us. It’s a very attractive league. We’re going to play to the end, we have to believe…We won’t give an inch.”
