Former Trinidad and Tobago National Under 20 defender Javed Mohammed is getting a second shot at playing in the American MLS after joining Sporting Kansas on trial on Thursday.
Mohammed had been back in Trinidad on a short break following another stint at Tampa. Prior to that he was drafted in the third round of the MLS Supplimental Draft by Colorado Rapids but was released a month later.
He will be on trial at Kansas until July 2.
The 22-year-old Mohammed captained the T&T Under 17 team and is also a graduate of Naparima College and University of South Florida where he made 80 appearances and was named Second Team All-BIG EAST Conference in 2009.
Meantime Trinidad and Tobago Under 20 forward Cordell Cato is currently on trial with American Major League Soccer club Seattle Sounders at Starfire Sports Complex.
The former St. Anthony’s College player currently plays for the San Juan Jabloteh in the TT Pro League in Trinidad and Tobago.
He joined the Port of Spain based club in January 2010. Cato recently featured in the 2011 CONCACAF U-20 Championships, where he played five minutes against Cuba. T&T were knocked out at the group stage without scoring a single goal.
This is not the first time a Trinidadian has tried out for the Sounders FC. Three trialist have failed to make the squad and Cato could be the first. In February 2009, World Cup veteran Densill Theobald was on trial while Akeem Adams featured in a friendly against Chivas Guadalajara. The most recent trialist is Kerry Baptiste, who went on trial towards the end of the 2010 season.
And fellow Under 20 player Johan Peltier is also on trial with Slovakian club AS Trenčín. His older brother Lester is currently on contract with Trencin which have been promoted to the Premier Division.
Johan earned the FA Trophy Final “One for the future” award courtesy of S2 Events for his outstanding showing in the 2010 TTFF FA Trophy Final earlier this year for his efforts in helping San Juan Jabloteh earn the $80,000 first prize.
