FC Dallas 0-1 New York

General thoughts on the match…

It was a very hot day, for sure, and very disappointing.  On a day that we could have put a lot of things together, we ended up losing against New York, a team that took advantage of one opportunity in the second half to put the game away after we missed a couple of chances. That disappointment comes with playing 80 minutes with ten men. Despite that, I have to give credit to this group of players who came out to play with a lot of heart.

Did losing a player change your focus or philosophy on the game?
When you lose a man, you are definitely losing something. After the red card, I wanted to change the formation because the game required us to, but we didn’t change our focus. We had a few chances that could have given us some points, especially in the second half, where the players played much more aggressively.  It is a shame that these boys didn’t take away any points today despite their great efforts

Did you feel Mauro’s absence on the field?
Yes, we missed a couple of players, but you know, I don’t want to use that as an excuse. We didn’t get a good result for the game, but we do have good news for the club and for the team. I saw a group of young men that were battling and playing with such personality. What Danny Garcia proved today in his first game playing against New York Red Bulls was incredible. Victor Ulloa played one of his best games with an FC Dallas jersey, having come up out of our system and proving today that he is an MLS player.  All the other players, the guys who have been around, doubled their efforts. Did we miss Mauro? Yes, but today we had good news, because the boys who we saw on the field today made us proud.

On Danny Garcia’s first start…
I would have loved to have given him the opportunity where he didn’t have to carry that much of the responsibility.  Today that was not the case. The team was given to Danny today and he took that responsibility. In 10 minutes he was playing with one man down, which is even worse.  It was not an ideal scenario for him, but he proved today in those hard circumstances that he can play the game and that’s fantastic. I feel very proud of him.

On today’s game…
My hat’s off to my team and FC Dallas players playing in these conditions, I thought those days of playing in these conditions at these times were behind us, it was unhealthy and unsafe to play

On Luis Robles Penalty Kick save…
Luis saved us today, it was a phenomenal save

Red Bull New York Forward Thierry Henry
On Playing in the heat…
Well, it’s definitely tough for us, but it’s a football game. We had to play better than what we did. At the end of the day we won, a good win for us, but I don’t think Dallas deserved to lose.

On Dallas playing with 10 men…
The whole team, they were passing the ball on the ground and played well. They played a lot better than us with 10 men.

On the performance of Goalkeeper Luis Robles…
He kept us in the game when we didn’t deserve to be still at nil-nil, but we managed to win the game.
