UCL – Quarterfinals – Leg 2
Bayern Munich 3-1 Manchester United
Manchester United took the lead and virtually qualified when Patrice Evra threw a superb strike at the 57′. Bayern scored the equalizer just a minute after Man United goal and will add two others in 20 more minutes.
Bayern coach – Guardiola reacts:
The Champions League quarter-finals are always a tough test and that was the case again today. United had their goalkeeper and eight players in the penalty box. We were patient and had a little bit of luck in front of goal. But we’re through to the semi-finals and I’m very, very proud of my team. I’m happy and delighted. The players ran their hearts out today and worked really hard. This is the best part of the season and we’re in a great situation.”
Arjen Robben: “You play football for games like these. You always have to be at your best. You enjoy it and you live for it. You train hard and do everything you can for nights like these. I thought we did really well, especially in the first half, although we should have let the ball do more of the work and switched the play better. That’s what makes the difference against opponents like these. Equalising so quickly was crucial. Only one more opponent to deal with and we’re in Lisbon.“
Manchester United – coach Moyes
That’s how it looks. But I believe it’s not far away. Hopefully it will only be one year where we have to rebuild.
“My focus now is on getting this team back in the competition. It’s a great competition and we’ve really enjoyed it.
“There’s no shame going out to Bayern Munich – they are a good side. The players have played really well. We’ll show the quality we’ve got, re-group and start building towards being back in the competition.”
