Manchester City 2-0 West Ham
What an unbelievable season for the Citizens and for the Premier League! Manchester City are crowned at home at the last day of season. A goal from Nasri and another from Kompany delivered Etihad Stadium for a second Premier League trophy in two seasons against West Ham . This time the Citizens did not have to wait for the last second of the game to win the crown.
Nasri at the 39th was first to ignite the night and then Kompany doubled the score at the 49th . Both players and many of the City squad will now prepare for the next big stage in Brazil with respectively France and Belgium. This Premier League season has been amazing form all angles. First we saw Arsenal rolling to the top and building a big lead early in the season. Manchester United fell off contention for one of the worse season of their history finishing 7th and will not participate in any European competition next year, the first since 1990 – Thank you David Moyes – United fans must say. Liverpool is also one to mention. The Reds are back in the Champions League and made an heroic run winning eleven straight and were favorites to win the crown this season. However Chelsea and Mourinho broke Anfield’s dreams with a 2-0 win only with three matches still to play. That was too much for Liverpool and City finish the season with perfection winning at Everton, again Aston Villa and today against West Ham. Congratulations to the Citizens.
Coach Pellgrini reacts:
“It’s not just winning titles that is important, but it’s the way you win them.
“It doesn’t matter who you play, maybe it’s easy to score a goal and then go behind the ball. We have players to play on the counter-attack, they are fast and technical, but again, I’m not criticizing the way other teams play, but if it was me, I wouldn’t be happy to win in that way.
“The fans enjoyed the whole season – we broke the records for the most goals scored by any team in England. It is the way we must play with the quality of players we have.
“Of course I am proud to manage this group of players and this club. It’s a great honour to be the first manager from outside of Europe to win the title but I’m not the most important person.
“I think we all enjoyed this season – the players, me, the fans – because the team played very well, this is as important as winning the title.
“I congratulate all of the teams – it was a fabulous Premier League.”
“It was a very difficult season – just a few days we were top of the league in the end. We had three games in hand for much of the year. We were always looking at the table position behind – nine points behind Chelsea, seven points behind Liverpool, or whatever it was.
“We are the only team involved in the four competitions until near the end”.
Captain Kompany :
“I’m extremely happy. It’s unbelievable. This team has more than just talent – it has soul too.
“When we do well, I’m so happy for this club and the fans. It’s a credit to how we’ve played this season.
“As a kid, all you dream of is lifting trophies and I’m achieving that now. We’re building a club – not just a team. Next season, we need to be even better. If we want to be a big club, this trophy should be one of many.”
