Arsenal and the word tepid seem to go hand in hand at times this season, and monday night at Old Trafford was no different. United’s Park was the only goal scorer on the night with an outstanding header to give the red devils all 3 points. The gunners had their moments with Arshavin threatening the most for the away side on a cold Manchester evening. Chamakh should have done better after Nasri shot was saved timidly by Van der Sar leaving the North African to shoot a delayed shot which was blocked by Vidic on the goal line.

On the positives to take from the performance, only one player stands out. Wojciech Szczesny made his Arsenal debut in between the sticks for the gunners. Could he be the missing piece of the jigsaw for Wenger’s side? I believe he could be. He was assured and measured throughout the whole game and certainly was not to blame for the sole goal of the game. Fabianski is a good shot stopper, but lacks skill in the crossing department. Almunia on the other hand is useless in all aspects of the game and my Granny would be a better goalie then the spaniard. However Szczesny looked a different class and only time will tell if he can continue to give good performances.

One thing I have to mention is the abhorrent attitude of Manchester united players. I want to especially make mention of the disgusting Fletcher. His berating of the referee Howard Webb was a terrible scene to witness. If Fletcher was playing for a local side on the weekend you could be sure to see him sent off with a £25 fine to boot! He even pushed the ref after disagreeing with Webb. My question is why don’t referees send these players off the minute they get abused. If a ref swears at a player he would get suspended! Sort it out FA!
