Premier League week 35
The title may have been decided today in Manchester at Old Trafford. In a decisive match for both teams, the visitors Manchester City, came out big and forced the decision in the second half to win 2-0. The Citizens control their destiny to win back-to-back League title.
Coach Guardiola on the big win at Old Trafford:
We were ourselves more in the second half because the first-half was a little bit different, but I understand the pressure that is on us and come to Old Trafford and have to win.
We knew United would want to react after the weekend and need points for the Champions League, so this was a tough game for us. Now we must be calm and rest because on Sunday we go to Burnley and we know how tough that is going to be.
In my opinion, both us and Liverpool deserve the title – the team that finishes second should not have any regrets because they will have done everything possible.
We are on 89 points and Liverpool 88 points and it’s tough because there are still three games to play – it is incredible, but it is what it is – and we still need to win our remaining games, starting on Sunday at Turf Moor. Normally, this kind of victory we can enjoy the most, but now we have to be calm.
I’ve told the players to rest tomorrow, relax, don’t talk too much, don’t watch TV, just eat well and get plenty of sleep because on Sunday we have another difficult game. Then we will have eight days to prepare for Leicester who have quality players in the middle and Vardy up front, and then another week to get ready for Brighton and hopefully, they will be safe and not need points to stay up!
It’s game by game and that’s all we can do.”
For United the end of the season is difficult. The Red Devils have now lost three consecutive games and scored no golas in that span while conceding nine times.
Coach Solksjaer comments on the negative performance:
Of course, we want to get into the top four. I haven’t been planning on playing on Thursday nights yet. We just have to make sure we give ourselves a chance on Sunday. We’re three games away from the end of the season, we’re three points behind the top four and no-one would have given us a chance a few months ago. t’s maybe taken its toll on the players. It’s my job now to see who wants to sacrifice enough to be here.
“Sunday is a massive one”. Manchester United vs Chelsea could determine fourth place. United are on 664points, three points behind Chelsea with 67 points.
“Sunday is something we have got to get ready for. The crowd has got to get ready for it, the players have got to get ready for it.Of course. we have analysed them. Let’s just make sure we turn up on Sunday with the same attitude and a little bit more quality in front of goal hopefully.
Let’s get the win that everybody wants, that the fans deserve and that the players deserve because they have made a terrific effort to give us a chance with three games to go to get in the top four.”
