French Ligue 1 matchday 6
Paris Saint-Germain are undoubtedly the heavy favorites to retain Ligue 1 title again this year. They won the Ligue five of the last six seasons [AS Monaco in 2017] and will likely win the next five or so. The reason is darn simple. There is no competition capable of beating PSG in the at the national level. Ligue 1 is all but boring.
Perfect start
six out of six wins confirm the level of PSG in the League. Next is Lille five points behind the leaders . Yes, Lille that had to fight until the last days of the Ligue 1 season last year to survive in the top flight. Then Montpellier, Toulouse… Come on, let’s just stop it there because we do not care anymore. The lack of competition in the League is flagrant and we hope you do not waste your time watching any Ligue 1 games on TV or online other than PSG.
Historic clubs are just bad
Marseille, Lyon and Monaco have battled the last few years until mid-season against PSG before they took over and won the title. But this year any of those three clubs are three victories behind the leaders.
Champions League gap
The result is PSG trains in Ligue 1 to play real competition in the Champions League and what happened there, they lose miserably every single of the past five seasons. But they did not fail in the final or the semifinals, no they are evicted at the quarterfinal stage. They have a new coach this year but things will remain the same.
PSG will win Ligue 1, League and French Cups and for the Champions League, we do not even know if they can get out of a tough group with Liverpool and Napoli
The new coach from Dortmund, Tuchel will hope to succeed where all his predecessors failed. His reaction:
“The first half was very difficult, because we weren’t ready for this game. Rennes have a lot of quality, play with a lot of intensity. They’re a tough team to face at home. We were happy to still be in it at the break, because we might have conceded two or three goals.
In the second half, we changed our approach. It was indispensable, I’m very happy we did it. It’s a very good reaction.”
