Serie A day 4: Chievo 0-1 Inter Milan; Genoa 0-2 Juventus

It took 4 games for Juventus to win their first Serie A match this season. With two inaugural  defeats and a draw, the Champions were sitting at the bottom of the table. They have finally started their season but stands 8 points behind the leader Inter. The Nerazzurri continues their perfect start with a fourth consecutive win and stays atop of the table.

Coach FC Inter Mancini reacts:

“Our league position doesn’t mean anything at the moment but it’s important to be up there so that we can stay near the top over the course of the season,”

“The main thing is we managed to get the win at a tough place like the Bentegodi, struggling and battling away against an in-form Chievo side who defend brilliantly. I’m happy with the way the lads played, also because it was very hot and Chievo kept everyone behind the ball. It wasn’t easy.”

“Perisic did much better today. The new guys need time but they’re all settling in well. Hopefully Murillo’s injury is nothing serious. Jeison normally recovers quickly.

“As for our defensive record, the new guys who have come in are helping out but if we’ve only conceded one goal so far it’s down to the whole team and the work they’re putting in. The more we work the better we get. That’s the only secret to success.”

Coach Juventus Allegri on the first win:

“It was a good win. Firstly because it was this season’s first triumph in the league and secondly because we kept a clean sheet. The lads did well to adapt to the physical nature of the game, at a venue where taking all three points is never a straightforward task.”

“We’ve only been working together for 10 days and at the moment my selections are based on technical and tactical aspects, not squad rotation.

“Leonardo had played every game this season, including the international fixtures, and I was concerned that a third consecutive match might have been a bridge too far for Hernanes at this stage from a physical point of view.

“Lemina put in a mature performance in a role I think he’s naturally suited to. He’s a very smart player from a tactical point of view, so hats off to him for his performance today. ”

“We’ve got time to improve and that’s precisely what we need to do, because we didn’t keep the ball well in the second half and were too hurried in our attempts to score a third goal.”
