Carabao Cup Leg 2: Arsenal 2-1 Chelsea (aggregate 2-1).
Arsenal came from behind to beat Chelsea in the semifinals of the Carabao Cup and will face Manchester City for a great final at Wembley Stadium.
It will be another chance for the Gunners to win a domestic trophy after last year’s FA Cup trophy.
Wenger comments on the Final berth:
“Coming from behind, we were not really convincing in the first half, but I think in the second half we played really well. We won the ball high up, controlled well and we have a technical midfield, so it’s important that when we give them the ball, we do it well and we looked like we could win this game.
They made us work for it, I felt that in the first half there were psychological and tactical reasons for us not expressing the quality of our game. We rectified that at half-time and in the second half we won the ball higher up, we could then get our midfield, who is technically very talent into the game and then we controlled the game. I felt in the second half basically we looked always like we could win this game and that’s what we did . In the end I would say it was a deflected goal in the first and then second one was as well a bit lucky, but I felt overall we controlled the game in the second half.
Maybe there was a little bit of a lucky deflected goal, but we were in the box and that was absolutely marvellous. Overall I believe it is great to go to Wembley again with our fans, to bring them there and hopefully we can win the trophy.
Yes, I want to win it and we are out of the FA Cup where we were always focused on, so we want to focus on this trophy now. Everybody always wants to win trophies and in England many teams can win, so it’s important that when you have an opportunity you can do it. It will be a difficult game certainly, but let’s prepare well for our next Premier League game, we want to get back in the top four and need to be consistent now.
It is a big lift, it is always a special day that you never forget. I believe that’s important and I’m convinced that our fans will be happy to go there and they have been there a few times. It is a good habit.”
