Inter Milan Breezes Past South Korean Side Seongnam Ilhwa in Fifa Club World Cup Semifinals
Inter’s 3-0 victory over the Asian champions secured a place in the Fifa Club World Cup final this weekend. It looked like Inter’s poor luck had followed them to UAE when star playmaker Wesley Sneijder went off with a hamstring injury in the opening seconds of the game, but before they could even bring on his substitute Thiago Motta, the team netted their first goal. This came from the boot of Serbian midfielder Dejan Stankovic as he darted into the box. Thirty minutes later the team got their second when Zanetti finished after a beautiful one-two passing combination between him and Milito. If the match wasn’t already done and decided, a 73rd minute Milito goal sealed the deal.
The Italian squad takes this victory with an air solemnity as they have been on a dismal run of performances. This was an easy win for the squad, but they were expected to win, and they’re expected to win on Saturday in the final against Congolese side TP Mazembe. If they oblige and take home the cup, it just might be the spark they need to start improving their domestic play, which doesn’t resume until January 6 – meaning the team will get a break and hopefully be able to be to field a squad in full health come the new year.
