Premier League week 7

Liverpool are no longer leading the Premier League following week 7. Manchester city dominated Brigthon 2-0 and took over first place on the goal differential. But the Reds can thanks Daniel Sturridge who get a point at Chelsea in a fantastic match at Stamford Bridge.

Goal of the season so far

Chelsea were leading 1-0 and looking to beat Liverpool for the second consecutive time in the same week [1-2 in League Cup]. However, Sturridge, subbed in, and delivered a magnificent strike that ended its course in the back right corner of Chelsea’s keeper. His goal silence the crowd in  London as Liverpool remain undefeated in the Premier League with six wins and one draw tied with Ma City.

Managers’ reactions:

Chelsea coach Sarri on not holding the result:

“I am disappointed because they scored in the last minutes but in the end I’m happy, firstly with the performance, and I think a draw maybe is the right result, the match was wonderful.

I’m really happy with the defensive performance of my side, especially in the second half.

Here there are six or seven top-level teams, top-level in Europe, not just England, so it’s not easy to get into the Champions League. We have to try of course, try to stay near them and try to improve more.”

Liverpool coach Klopp on bringing back home a point:

“We deserved a point – we would have deserved to win, but it’s all good with the result. Both teams deserved a point, but we only had more chances. We had more chances on Wednesday. Chelsea is a super team and it is quite difficult to play them. I thought we did it in a really impressive way to be honest.

I spoke a lot about Chelsea and how good they play – and they played good – but we defended it brilliant. We played good football as well and coming into these situations in the box is really not simple against a quality side like Chelsea. But we still did it – it felt like six or seven times we had big chances.

I am completely fine and I want us to respond, I want us to react and perform in all the games. I saw today a really good performance from my side in a difficult, difficult game after we lost on Wednesday against them. We gave them one proper chance. They used it, we didn’t use ours, that’s how life is. As long as we play like this tonight, we will win football games – and this is good.”
