Arsenal were able to overcome a stubborn Crystal Palace 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium to pick up the three points which has seen them back to the summit of the Premier League table once again.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain returned to the side following a spell on the injury table to score both goals against the fellow London club.
The Eagles frustrated Arsene Wenger’s men in the opening 45 minutes as they defended deep to keep the scoreline goalless going into the break.
It did not take the Gunners long though after the interval as Oxlade Chamberlain beat Palace ‘keeper Julian Speroni for the first time. He was calm with his finish after being assisted by Santi Cazorla.
Cameron Jerome had the opportunity to level the scores five minutes later. He was on the end of a Yannick Bolasie cross from the right. However, Wojciech Szezesny produced an excellent save to deny him, despite not being really tested by the Eagles before that point.
Oxlade-Chamberlain had been out for four months following a knee injury but settled back into the side to grab their second later in the half. This time, he exchanged with Olivier Giroud before beating Speroni again.
Fans who bet on soccer games should note that Manchester City could climb above Arsenal this evening if they pick up all three points at home to Chelsea. The 2011/12 winners have won all of their home fixtures in the league so far in the campaign.
The Gunners’ next game in the Premier League is a trip to Anfield to take on Liverpool on Saturday.
They are back at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday week where they will entertain Manchester United who are currently outside the top four in the table (and foundering in the soccer betting odds) after a further defeat at the weekend to Stoke.
