Gunners fans have every reason to feel aggrieved after Man City offered nothing in terms of entertainment value at the Emirates on Wednesday night. Arsenal were simply superb in the first half offering quick flowing football. Arsenal could have scored with less than a minute into the game when van Persie narrowly missed the ball when Wilshere crossed across the penalty area. This set the tone for the rest of the game with Arsenal pressing and pressing but to no avail. Shots from van Persie, Fabregas and Walcott all hit the post with City keeper Joe Hart well beaten. City looked weak and ineffective.
The second half was more of the same from the North London club pounding the City goal with attack after attack. Man City were left with scraps and they did little with those scraps! But the game just had a feel that it would end goal less. Wenger made a big mistake by bringing off Walcott and replacing him with the under fire Arshavin. Yet the more Arsenal pressed the more comfortable City seemed to be with YaYa Toure having a fine game as the blues defensive midfielder. A coming together of heads between Zabaleta and Sagna ended up with both players being sent for an early bath and that was the end of proceedings.
I worry that Arsenal couldn’t break down City, but also was so happy with the Gunners amazing overall display. Wenger is still tactically inept and times which surprises me with his experience. I am going to go out on a limb now and say after that performance that the tile is Arsenals if they want it. If Arsenal keep playing like that I can see the premier league title ending up in north London.
