Amidst circulating rumors that the Brazilian, Ronaldinho may soon be joining their ranks, Galaxy headed east and registered a 2-1 road win over DC United.  Galaxy have had a patch of up and down form lately while United have simply been suffering through a dismal season.

Following last weeks 2-0 loss away to the New England Revolution, Bruce Arena was taking no chances and reinstated Landon Donovan into the Galaxy’s starting lineup.  DC gave a start to their new signing, Pablo Hernandez.

After a very well matched first half hour Edson Buddle gave the visitors the lead in the 38th minute when he received a well placed cross in from Sean Franklin.  Buddle’s first attempt was blocked by Dejan Jakovic, however the Galaxy forward was able to nutmeg the keeper on the rebound to duly put the ball into the back of the net.

United grabbed a second half equalizer in the 54th minute when Andy Najar headed the ball home off a set piece played in by Pablo Hernandez.

However Galaxy regained their lead minutes later when they were awarded a penalty kick after United’s Julius James handled the ball.  Donovan stepped up to the mark and converted putting the Galaxy up 2-1.

DC enjoyed a good amount of possession throughout the night but seemed simply incapable of mounting serious threats to the Galaxy’s defense.  This result sees Galaxy comfortably retaining their status as league leaders while United’s chances of a play-off berth seem to slipping from their grasp.
