The Chicago Fire Soccer Club, the Chicago Fire Foundation, MLS W.O.R.K.S., Major League Soccer’s community outreach initiative, and University of Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System announced Monday the Fire’s efforts to aid in MLS’ breast cancer awareness campaign as part of Soccer Kicks Cancer, an initiative focused on raising awareness and funds for cancer research and treatment and providing strength and hope in the fight against cancer affecting men, women and children. The club will raise awareness and funds for the fight against cancer when the Chicago Fire take on D.C. United Presented by University of Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System at Toyota Park on Saturday, Oct. 27 at 3:00 p.m. CT (NBC Sports Network/97.5 ESPN Deportes).
The Fire will recognize and honor cancer survivors and others affected by the disease prior to the match. Breast Cancer Heroes will participate in a pregame, on-field activation of the Breast Cancer Awareness Ribbon. Supporters who are attending the match and are interested in supporting Breast Cancer Awareness can be part of the on-field Pink Ribbon by emailing [email protected].
Tickets for the Chicago Fire – D.C. United match are available by calling 888-MLS-Fire, by visiting www.Chicago-Fire.com or Ticketmaster.
Collaborating with MLS partners adidas and Gatorade, the match will be played with a commemorative pink adidas PRIME match ball and players will use pink sideline towels provided by Gatorade.
During the match the Fire will don blue kits with pink name plates, numbers and special pink MLS W.O.R.K.S. ribbon patch on their jerseys, pink adidas sweat bands and shoe laces. Fire goalkeepers will be in special pink jerseys to further support the cause.
The Chicago Fire Foundation will hold a Commemorative Jersey Auction on the Northeast Concourse where the jerseys will be auctioned off up until halftime of the match. Each winner will not only receive the player’s jersey, but will get the opportunity to meet that player postgame in a private meet and greet session. In addition, the Fire have partnered with Sodexo, Toyota Park’s concessionaire, to serve a special pink cocktail in the Stadium Club. A donation of $1 from each drink will benefit A Silver Lining Foundation.
