Champions League day 2 – PSG 3-2 Barcelona

Nasser Al Khelaifi (Paris Saint-Germain president)
“I am very happy, very proud, of the team, the coach and the supporters. For me, this is the best victory of my life. We deserved it. The coach and the players did everything to get the win.  We have had some tough weeks, with a lot of draws and we really wanted this victory. We woke up this evening.”

Laurent Blanc (Paris Saint-Germain coach)
“It was a great match, a great win. We needed the points. We enjoyed a great moment this evening. The players were more focused and motivated than usual. All the ingredients were there for a great performance, but we still had to go out there and do it.  I was convinced the team hadn’t lost all its virtues. The most important thing for me tonight was to show that we are still a team.”

David Luiz (Paris Saint-Germain defender)
“It was a great night with a great atmosphere, worthy of the Champions League. The team was excellent this evening. We hadn’t been playing our best recently, but tonight we saw the real Paris Saint-Germain. It was a fantastic night. My goal? It was incredible for me. It was a dream come true to score for Paris Saint-Germain. But it’s only the beginning, we need to keep working hard.”

Luis Enrique (FC Barcelona coach)

“We couldn’t find clear ways to cause damage in the last 30 minutes but I think we should have got a draw. PSG took their chances and made the most of our mistakes. … I’m not in the slightest bit bothered about losing the lead. I’m worried about getting back the good feelings for the next few games … We made mistakes getting the ball out and that gave away set pieces. When you’re behind in a game, it’s very hard to turn it around.

“PSG were able to cope with our pressure. We couldn’t find the way to cause real damage until the last 30 minutes and I think we could have drawn. “I am the person responsible for this defeat. It wasn’t my day for getting things right. I’ll try not to do it again or at least do it less … Favourites have to prove that they are favourites on the pitch.”

Andres Iniesta (FC Barcelona midfielder)

You pay dearly for mistakes in the Champions League when your opponents take their goal chances. We reacted when they scored but we found it hard to equalise or turn the game around”.

“It’s not easy to play here in the Champions League. But we need to carry on as we have done until now. Nobody gives anything away for free. We lost but we just have to press on”.
