Darren Bent has really been a nomad in English professional football and although he has bagged plenty of goals wherever he has gone, the striker has struggled to find the right club for him.
With a record like Bent has in the Premier League, you would have thought most teams would be desperate for the 28-year-old’s services.
However Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert for the most part seems relatively happy having the England international on his bench at Villa Park, as part of a rotation system.
As Charlton Athletic, Tottenham Hotspur and Sunderland all found that Bent is a prolific goalscorer but Villa, who really splashed the cash to bring the player from the Stadium of Light in January 2011, are not using him to the best of his ability.
The key for Bent has always been confidence and the only way he will get that is by playing regular football in the Premier League and the forward has admitted that’s what he is desperate for.
He told Sky Sports: “Obviously any player who values himself wants to play week in, week out.
“When you start playing rotation systems it is difficult to find a rhythm as such, especially when you are a front man, but it is the manager’s decision and we live by that and you have to keep working hard in training and showing him that you want to play.”
There has been speculation Bent could be set to leave Aston Villa in the January transfer window, if he does not start getting regular game time under Lambert.
That remains to be seen but Villa could do with an on-song Bent at the moment, as they hover just above the relegation zone.
