Bayern Munich In Crisis

Niko Kovac is no longer the Bayern Munich coach. The Croatian manager was fired after his team heavily collapsed in Frankfurt 5-1. Worse the Bavarians and current champions sit at the 4th place in the standings.

it shows how tough it is to manager a big club like Bayern Munich. The same club won 7-2 at Tottenham in the Champions League group stage just a few weeks back. In a club communique, Bayern Munich’s CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge explained:

“The performances of our team in recent weeks and the results have shown us that there was a need for action. Uli Hoeneß, Hasan Salihamidzic and I had an open and serious discussion with Niko this Sunday based on that and came to the mutual decision that Niko is no longer head coach of FC Bayern. We all regret this development. I would like to thank Niko Kovac on behalf of FC Bayern for his work, particularly for last season’s double win.”

Title and League Cup

Kovac led the club to another Bundesliga title and a cup title as well. He managed the club for almost 18 months until his release. He comments briefly after the 5-1 rout at Eintracht Frankfurt

Of course we mustn’t lose 5-1 here. Our performance today is not what we expect of ourselves. We didn’t play well in the second half.”

A few hours later he was informed of his sacking. He thanks the club for a great experience:

“I think this is the correct decision for the club at this time. The results and the way we’ve played lately have led me to this decision. My brother Robert and I would like to thank FC Bayern for these past 18 months. During that time our team won the Bundesliga, the DFB Cup and the Supercup. It was a good time. I wish the club and the team all the very best.”
