Marc Albrighton created Barclays Premier League history on Wednesday when he scored the competition’s landmark 20,000th goal at Villa Park.
The midfielder took advantage of a poor attempted back pass from Arsenal defender Per Mertesacker to finish low with a right-footed strike past Wojciech Szczesny in the 54th minute, bringing Villa level at 1-1 after Robin van Persie had converted a 17th-minute penalty.
Albrighton is a product of Aston Villa’s youth system, making his Barclays Premier League debut in September 2009 against Wigan.
He will receive £20,000 from Premier League title sponsors Barclays to donate to a charity of his choice.
Sheffield United striker Brian Deane scored the competition’s first-ever goal on 15 August in 1992, netting in the fifth minute against Manchester United at Bramall Lane. However, Benayoun 87′ scored to put Arsenal on top and win 2-1.
