European Qualifiers: Scotland 2-2 England

England was put to the task against a valiant Scottish team that would have deserved to win the game. England was first to strike at the 70 minutes but Griffith stunned the Three Lions with two consecutive goals in the last moments of the game. Though, it was not enough to claim victory as Harry Kane saved the day with a volley-goal in the ultimate seconds in added time.

The draw strengthens England as group leader and the World Cup berth is getting closer.

Coach Southgate comments of the wild last five minutes of the games.

“[It was] a game we should win, a game we were in total control of . Two moments of brilliant quality from them turn it on its head in seconds but we should never be beaten. We’ve got to have a mentality that we’re never beaten and we showed that at the end.
The first free-kick is careless, the second free-kick is a slip, so I’m not sure there’s a lot we could have done about that.

We’ve come into a hostile atmosphere; we’ve controlled the game completely. We should have been further ahead – if you don’t get the second goal, you run the risk of an equalizer at some point.

I think we had moments where we got into really good positions in the final third and you’ve got to take the finish. We got ourselves into decent positions and didn’t quite finish but the objective’s to qualify and we still sit top of the group.”
