Late sub Josh Wolff headed in an excellent cross from Michael Harrington to score the Kansas City Wizards’ game-winning goal in the seventh minute of second-half stoppage time, putting the finish on a stunning comeback from a two-goal deficit.

It was a topsy-turvy game Wednesday night at CommunityAmerica Ballpark in Kansas City.

At the outset, the Houston Dynamo came on strong. Cam Weaver’s 13th-minute goal caught Kansas City sleeping. Much to the Wizards’ dismay, Dominic Oduro widened the lead to 2-0 in the 34th minute.[picappgallerysingle id=”8676961″]

Unfazed by the bleak outlook, Kei Kamara responded immediately with a 35th-minute goal.

Almost as quickly, Adrian Serioux widened the Dynamo’s lead again to two goals.

Kansas City just seemed unable to catch a break in the first half, which ended 3-1 in Houston’s favor.

The events of the second half turned the game upside down.

First there was sub Teal Bunbury’s 60th-minute goal off a muffed goal kick from Houston goalkeeper Pat Onstad, who slipped.

Bunbury had come in for Birahim Diop at the opening of the second half.

Next there was Serioux’s deflection of a shot by Ryan Smith, which resulted in an own goal in the 72nd minute.

Those antics tied the match at 3.

All that remained was for someone–anyone–to put in the winning goal. By the time the game entered second-half stoppage time, however, no one had risen to the task.

Five minutes were added to the clock. Then those five minutes stretched into seven minutes. That proved fateful for the Dynamo, as Wolff, who had come in for Craig Rocastle in the 85th minute, answered the call in the 96th minute, cementing the Wizard’s 4-3 victory.

“There were a lot of bodies in the box,” Wolff stated later. “When the ball went out wide, I just tried to get in front of some guys. And Mikey [Harrington] put a great ball in. I did well with it.”

The Wizards host F.C. Dallas on Saturday, in what will be their third game of the week.
