Nehterlands 3-4 USA

U.S. MNT goalkeeper BRAD GUZAN

On the team’s performance:
I think the start of the game was obviously a good start for us. We created some chances. I thought we were a little bit unlucky not to be up earlier on, but I think overall it showed our spirit and our fight to find a way to get a result. Any time you play a team like Holland, especially in Amsterdam, it’s going to be a long game and it’s going to be a difficult game. But credit to the guys, because the spirit and the determination to find a way to win was really good.”

On what this win over the Netherlands in Amsterdam does for the team:
“It’s a big factor for us. It gives us some confidence going into the Germany game on Wednesday, but I think more than anything it gives us that belief that when we do play tough teams and when we do play in difficult venues away from home and outside of the United States that we can go and get wins. We can go and put together a performance even on a day when it wasn’t our best soccer. We still found a way to win and when you do that, that’s important.”

U.S. MNT forward BOBBY WOOD

On his game-winning goal:
I don’t remember much I just know that Jordan [Morris] gave me a great cross. I can’t complain about that cross and I just tapped it in.”

On what it’s like to have his first goal with the National Team be a game-winner in a big game:
It hasn’t really hit in yet. I still can’t believe that I scored. It’ll be amazing once it kicks in.”

On what the message from the coaching staff was when he entered the game:
Just be strong and play like I did in training and just give it all and be confident.”

On what the celebration of his goal was like:
“I was just shocked. I didn’t really celebrate. I was in shock. I thought maybe I might have been offside, but I was just shocked and I enjoyed it.”

On what he did when he scored:
“I ran to the corner and just kind of embraced it and said thank you to Jordan Morris. It was exciting.”

U.S. MNT forward GYASI ZARDES
On his goal:
I think I saw Fabian Johnson just wind up to cross the ball in and I was behind the defender and I noticed the defender was lacking on getting back so I knew the ball was going to come across so I lunged out and I just kept my eyes on the ball and just tried to make contact with my right foot and put it on frame and sure enough it went in the goal. I watched it because it looked like the keeper had it in his hands but I saw him bobble it inside the goal and that’s when I was just like, ‘yes!’ It was like a since of relief. We were down one-nil and just to get a goal to get us back into it was phenomenal. It was like, ‘we’re back in this thing.”

On if getting his first goal in a game like this gives it more significance:
Of course. It’s definitely a blessing just to be on the field with these guys and not only that, on this stage against Holland, who finished third in the World Cup. It’s just amazing to be on the pitch and to get a goal.”

On the young strikers taking advantage of their opportunity:
I feel like the young strikers grasped every single opportunity that was out there on that field. We were all hungry for a goal and sure enough we all gave it our all.”

On what a result like this does for the team:
“Personally speaking I feel like a result like this shows character. We didn’t give up. We were down 3-1 and for the full 90 minutes we were fighting.  Moving on forward to playing Germany, I feel like if we have the same characteristics and the same mentality and attitude I think it will be a positive atmosphere and a positive chemistry within the team going into that game.”

U.S. MNT midfielder DANNY WILLIAMS

On his goal:
I think Michael Bradley took the corner and I saw one guy head it away and I was thinking, please head it to me. The ball came to me and I had a good first touch and I shot it toward the goal and I think it had a bit of a deflection and I just followed the ball with my eyes and hoped it would go in. Obviously the moment after you could see how I felt.”
