In a top of the Eastern Conference clash, the New York Red Bulls and Sporting Kansas City played to a 1-1 tie Sunday night at LIVESTRONG Sporting Park. With the draw, the second place Red Bulls remained two points behind leader Sporting Kansas City with 45 points off a 13-7-6 record.

Kansas City took the lead four minutes into the match. Graham Zusi played a long pass into New York’s end and an on-rushing Teal Bunbury got to the ball first, chipping it over goalkeeper Bill Gaudette at the top of the box. Kei Kamara was first to the loose ball and headed it into the empty net.

However, the Red Bulls recorded the equalizer in the 28th minute. Sebastien Le Toux hit a free kick from the left wing towards the six-yard box that Kamara, with Red Bulls midfielder Tim Cahill on his back, flicked into his own net.

New York nearly earned full three points in second half stoppage time as Dax McCarty and Le Toux started a breakaway on a counterattack off a Sporting Kansas City corner kick. Le Toux found McCarty alone in the penalty box, but the Red Bulls midfielder took at heavy touch and the hosts were able to clear the danger.
