Chivas USA played to a 0-0 tie with D.C. United in a preseason scrimmage held on Friday afternoon at The Home Depot Center. Zach Thornton and Dan Kennedy combined to keep a clean sheet, while rookie Zarek Valentin played the full 90 minutes at right back. The Red-and-White move to 3-2-1 (W-L-T) in preseason, with the club’s next match coming on March 1 against the Canada U-23 National Team.

While both teams struggled to break through the opposition defense, the best chance of the match fell to Jesús Padilla in the 55th minute, when a great cross from Mariano Trujillo found the forward behind the United defense. D.C. goalkeeper Pat Onstad quickly came out and blocked Padilla’s shot from close range, keeping the match scoreless. Kennedy played the final 28 minutes in goal, his first match action since an injury suffered in August of 2010.
