Los Angeles FC signed its first designated player with Carlos Vela. The Mexican international superstar will now play in the same city as his teammates with the national team – the Dos Santos brothers.

After announcing the signing of former USMNT coach Bradley, the newly club made another splash as before inaugurating first MLS season in 2018. Carlos Vela’s interest started early when he heard the new team in LA: “When I saw the news that LA is starting a new team, I called my agent and said, ‘I want to go there”. “It is very special for me to be the first Designated Player in LAFC history. I’m honored to be here and to begin my new adventure playing for the people of Los Angeles.

Coach Bob bradley added: “It’s a statement that reaffirms what the club is all about, the values, the connection with the city, and it’s a statement about what our football will be like. When he has the ball at his feet, the stadium rises because you know good things will happen. This is what we want to be about when we step on the field”

Vela signed with Arsenal of the English Premier League in 2005 and appeared with Salamanca (Spain – Segunda Division), Osasuna (Spain – La Liga) and West Bromwich Albion (English Premier League) before transferring officially to Real Sociedad in 2012. Vela was the Real Sociedad Player of the Year in 2011-12 and 2013-14.
