A team of sports lawyers from the Manchester office of Brabners Chaffe Street has once again worked alongside some of the top figures in the football world to advise on the creation of the World League Association.

The team, led by Maurice Watkins CBE, advised on the structure and constitution of the new organisation, which aims to be the leading voice of professional football leagues at world level. This follows Brabners Chaffe Street’s continuing work with the European Professional Football Leagues (EPFL) which began with the EPFL’s incorporation in 2005.

Representatives from the major world professional football leagues were in Manchester last week for the launch of the World League Association.

The Board of Directors of the new World League Association will consist of eleven members, six from the EPFL and the remaining five from the other founding members namely the South African Premier Soccer League, Major League Soccer, the Thai Professional League and the United Arab Emirates League plus another member to be appointed by non-European leagues. The Constitution, drawn up with the assistance of Brabners Chaffe Street, is to be ratified at the inaugural congress in Bangkok in September 2012.

Commenting on the creation of the World League Association, Brabners Chaffe Street’s Senior Partner, Maurice Watkins, said: “We are pleased to be associated with the World League Association which continues our work with the leading football leagues in the world.”

The World League Association will represent the leagues by protecting the game’s positive values and enhancing football standards. The international governing body of football, FIFA has also lent its support to the World League Association and has praised the objective of promoting professional football even more around the world.
