The second to last World Cup qualifiers are underway as six teams already book Russia 2018 World Cup berth.

Mexico wins 1-0 to Panama and book trip to Russia.

USA fails miserably to Costa Rica 0-2 and endanger chances to make it. Next is almost a must win in Honduras. Coach Arena reacts on the loss:

“We obviously didn’t play well tonight. On the night, we didn’t make any plays that mattered. We made some critical errors, didn’t capitalize, take advantage of opportunities. Didn’t have a good night. Give Costa Rica credit, they outplayed us and outcoached us.”

USMNT has been very disappointing in the World Cup campaign with only 8 points and three losses in just seven games. But, because of the lack of competition in the Concacaf zone, they remain heavy favorites to clinch the third qualifying spot to Russia. Although not publicly stated, Mexico is FIFA’s money-maker and the team will be at World Cup again. Mexicans are by far the fans who traveled the most to the World Cup. With El Tri qualified, FIFA is already guaranteed a continuous stream of revenues.

France mesmerized and dominated Holland 4-0 then plays a disgraceful match against Luxembourg 0-0. The French team is talent loaded but also has an inflated ego! Not being able to beat Luxembourg at home is not acceptable. Despite 34 shots only 8 were on goal. The French could qualify to the World Cup but will now face a must-win in Bulgaria.

Belgium is the first European team, besides the host Russia, to qualify for the World Cup after their win in Greece 2-1. This team will be one of the outsiders to go far in the tournament next year with the likes of Hazard, Lukaku and DeBruyne, Beligum has it all to make a run.

England and Germany move closer to Russia with their respective win and could validate their ticket this week with a win.

Isco sparkles Spain to easy 3-0 victory against Italian rival. Spain is now likely to qualify directly to Russia. The 2010 World Cup champions lead Italy by three points. The Italians will likely go through the playoff round in November.

Switzerland continue perfect qualifiers record with their eight wins as many games. They will face Portugal in October and a draw should be enough to make it directly to Russia.

In South America the race is exciting, Colombia and Argentina tied their respective opponents Venezuela and Uruguay so nothing changed much on top f the stsndings. Besides brazil already qualified, seven team are in 4 points while only three can claim a direct berth to Russia and the fifth spot will go to the playoff round.
