Former Australian international Scott Chipperfield has admitted he is still looking at signing for an A-League club, despite agreeing a short-term deal with Tarrawanna.

The winger’s contract with FC Basel recently expired following an 11-year career with the club, which saw Chipperfield establish himself as an integral part of the Australian national team and feature heavily in many soccer betting tips.

The 36-year old had been linked with a move to newly-formed West Sydney, who coached by Chipperfield’s former Socceroo team-mate Tony Popovic, but he has now signed a deal with Tarrawanna in the Illawarra Premier League.

Chipperfield has made it clear he is still targeting a move to an A-League club, but insists he is happy to have singed with Tarrawanna in order to keep up his match fitness.

“Nothing formal has happened yet but I know Poppa wants to have a chat with me and I’m happy to do that because I find the idea of playing in the A-League really appealing,” Chipperfield said.

“If I don’t pick up a contract with the A-League then I’ll play at Tarrawanna until the end of the season. It’s all up in the air at the moment, but I’m pretty confident I can play a couple of games [for Tarrawanna], and then we’ll see what comes of it and what next step to take.”

Many soccer betting experts reckon that Popovic could do a lot worse than to take the experienced Chipperfield to West Sydney, with the former Sydney FC assistant looking to assemble a squad capable of competing in the A-League.

Chipperfield may not have the pace of old, but he would bring plenty of experience to the fresh squad, as well as opening the possibility up for the veteran to move into coaching.
