One of the benefits or perhaps fun aspects of having been a major player for a top club is that you always tend to receive invitations to play in big testimonial matches or All Star clashes. This has certainly been the case for Dwight Yorke. He was part of the Manchester United masters team that won the recent British Airways invitational tournament in Barbados and now he is among the players set to line up for  Battle of The Legends charity match to be played on Tuesday, August 9 between Celtic Legends and Manchester United Legends.

Both teams will have a number of former players and celebrity fans taking part and the Hoops have confirmed Henrik Larsson, Chris Sutton, Lubo Moravcik and the current management team of Neil Lennon, Johan Mjallby and Alan Thompson will all turn out.

On the Manchester United side Teddy Sheringham, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Yorke have all been included in the line up.

Andy Cole was also in Barbados on Yorke’s team and while the Tobago-born has been billed a star with United, Cole still felt the ex-Villa marksman could have achieved even greater things at Old Trafford.

“Yorkey should have won much more. When we started playing together, it was like meeting a special woman and falling in love. Everything felt right. We never had a cross word. If one player lived the dream, it was Dwight. If I’m brutally honest, for a boy of his talent, Dwight never fulfilled his potential. He was one of the fittest footballers I played with and his ability was up there with the best. Dwight is from a small Caribbean island and the mentality is when you reach the top, you relax and ease off,” Cole said.
