Arsenal 1-2 Chelsea

Arsenal saw their unbeaten start to the season disappear at Emirates Stadium after goals from Fernando Torres and Juan Mata sandwiched Gervinho’s first-half equaliser.

But, while the nature of the result frustrated the Gunners boss, he believes his side has the character to emerge stronger from the disappointment.

“The players are very frustrated. They have a great attitude, they are very disappointed,” said Wenger.

“I can understand that. But I think we will recover from it. It can happen in the season, but they are disappointed because they lost a game they should not have lost.”

Arsenal had arguably had the better of the chances at Emirates Stadium with Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud going close to rescuing a point.

But, for the second and third time in a week, they conceded a Premier League goal from a set piece – a stat that frustrates the Arsenal boss.

“I thought we were a bit passive on both goals, and we have to be active. You do not play many times away from home and score from two set pieces the way they did today – that is for sure,” he said.

“We played against a good side but they had three shots on goal and the two goals they scored, with my best will I cannot say they were fantastic goals. They are goals you have to stop.”
