English: André Villas Boas as a head coach of F.C. Porto

Former Chelsea boss, Andre Villas-Boas, is the bookmakers favourite to land the vacant Tottenham managerial job, following the sacking of Harry Redknapp, last week.

Chelsea owner, Roman Abramovich, relieved Villas Boas from this role at Stamford Bridge, in March, after the Blues had struggled with their league form

The Portuguese coach arrived in England with a glowing reputation, after guiding Porto to the league title in his first season at the club. However, things did not work out at Chelsea, with reports that he did not have the dressing room behind him, during the closing stages of his reign at the club.

Villas Boas was heavily linked with Liverpool, last month, before Brendan Rodgers was appointed at Anfield, but it is understood he was not interested in taking over from Kenny Dalglish.

The 34-year old may see the opportunity at Tottenham as the perfect chance to redeem his reputation as one of the brightest young managers in Europe. In his four years at White Hart Lane, Redknapp transformed the North London club into possible title challengers once again, despite missing Champions League football, next season.

Other possible candidates for the role include Laurent Blanc, who has helped France recover from their shambolic 2010 World Cup, installing them as lively contenders for Euro 2012. His contract expires with the French Football Federation after the tournament in Poland and Ukraine, and it is unclear at this stage whether he will stay on in his role with the national side.

Wigan manager, Roberto Martinez, has been linked with every vacant job, this summer, and is thought to be on the shortlist at Tottenham, as is former Spurs striker, Jurgen Klinsmann, who is currently in charge of the United States national side.
