UEFA Champions League: Copenhagen 0-0 Leicester City, Tottenham Hotspur 0-1 Bayer Leverkusen

Leicester City brought a good point from Denmark and has not yet to concede a goal for their first participation in the Champions League. The Foxes lead the group and are in a good position to qualify. For Tottenham, the Champions League adventure could end quickly as the club failed to win again. After losing to Monaco in the Opening match, The Spurs lost another game at Wembley, stadium they elected to play their Champions League. They must now regret their decision. They will have to win the next game in Monaco to preserve a chance to advance.

Coach Leicester Ranieri reacts:

“We stopped very well all the crosses and Kasper [Schmeichel] didn’t make any saves [early in the game]. Then I changed the formation to 4-4-1-1 and we played much better in the second half.

Of course in the end both teams could score and win the match. Kasper made a very good save and we had two or three chances but the last pass wasn’t so good. Kasper gave us two points [in the home game with a late save to keep it 1-0] and today he won us one point. It’s very important for us because 10 points is not enough, but it’s a good point tonight.

It’s another clean sheet and for this reason we have one point in Copenhagen against a good team and a very well organized team. I’m very very satisfied.”

Coach Tottenham Pochettino reacts:

“I’m very disappointed, we were poor and the result wasn’t good.  There are no excuses – it’s not Wembley, it’s not the pitch, we were poor and that is all.

We didn’t play well in the (home) games against Monaco and Bayer Leverkusen. We showed a lack of energy and a lack of aggression in front of goal and when you play Champions League, it’s important to show more quality, more energy.

We need to find the answers ourselves and try to increase our levels. The players are very disappointed but we need to lift them because we have a very important game ahead of us. It’s good now to go to Arsenal on Sunday and show we are a real team.”
