Atletico Madrid return to reign in Europe. Their Second Europa League final in three years and second title for Atletico. Atletico Madrid and ended a spectacular season in Europe, with 17 wins, one draw and one defeat. They’ve done so by ‘killing’ their opponent in just over half an hour. After just seven minutes they put the first on the board and after 33 the second. Diego finished the game after 85 with another great goal.

Atletico Madrid and Athletic Club had before them the Europa League, with two sets of fans waiting in the stadium from one hour before the crash. The red and white colour covered the whole of the National Stadium in Buchares. The North stand was of Atletico, with a spectacular mosaic before the match with the colours of the flag of Spain, the red and white of the club and a banner saying: Proud.

it didn’t take long for Atletico Madrid to take control. Simeone’s side started strong, while Bielsa appeared gripped by nerves. Adrian was the first to be noticed by Iraizoz with a header off target but that was the prelude to what would follow. The Colombian held the ball, made two feints and changed it to his left foot before launching a ground-air missile that gently sought the top right corner of the Bilbao goal. A goal for the final. As happened last season when he socred the winner for Porto.

Fernando Llorente was the first to finish for the side wearing dark green, but his shot went wide. Later, at after 23 minutes, Muniaín tried to trouble the goal of Courtois who looked unbeatable in the Atletico goal.

The game looked more like it was heading for 2-0 than for 1-1. Athletic had the ball but did not treat it properly and any loss could be fatal to their interests as Simeone’s team knew that the anxiety of the back could be crucial. From a corner kick the second came, the ball went to Godin, who fought with Miranda and played it to Arda Turan, the Turk passed to Falcao who controlled, dribbled past his marker and shot in to the Basque goal. 2-0 and the second Europa League was closer, and the Atletico Madrid fans who filled the National Stadium in Bucharest could sense victory.

Atletico Madrid had dealt a severe blow to the opposition but they continued to push and in the last minute of the first half De Marcos shot on goal but the Atletico defence snuffed out the danger presented by the Basques.

The second half started with a double change by the Athletic. Bielsa decided to introduce Ibai Gómez for Aurtenetxe and Iñigo Pérez for Iturraspe, as they searched for a way back in to the game and it…
