Premier League clubs played the 3rd round of the Emirates Cup over the weekend. here is what happened:

Giroud the Messiah: North Preston 1-2 Arsenal

Arsenal comes from behind and Giroud sealed the win with a late goal. Coach Wenger comments:

“He scored recently many goals. In the squad, everybody contributes. It’s not about 11 and he is at the moment in good form. So for one month he scores goal after goal.

I think since the start of the season we had many, many, many comebacks and many goals in the final minutes. I would first like to congratulate Preston for the quality of their game, especially in the first half where we were outpaced and they played with desire, enthusiasm and quality and they gave us many problems. Full commitment for 90 minutes – it was a great cup tie and we needed to dig deep to win the game today.”

No problem for Chelsea: Chelsea 4-1 Peterborough

Coach Conte made a turnover with his starting XI but the result ended up the same. Chelsea wins. He comments after the game:

“I am pleased with our performance and the result. I’m pleased because we’re in the next round of this competition. Today we changed nine players because I had the opportunity to see some players who haven’t played a lot. I saw a lot of positive things. We faced a good team but we showed great commitment and showed we were a team. That’s the most important thing because when you change nine players it’s not easy to quickly find your idea of football. Now it’s important to continue.”

Liverpool to replay match after 0-0 draw against Plymouth. Manchester City destroys West Ham 5-0 in London

Professional Manchester United against reading 4-0 says coach Mourinho

He comments: “I think we started very well, we didn’t kill the game but 2-0 was a good situation for us to control the game. I think it’s a very professional job with everybody really focused and trying to play well, which we did, and winning the match, which we should, against a team that gave us some difficult moments. The team was intense; the team was dynamic, playing well. As we expected, they were good with the ball so when we gave them the chance to have the ball they had it, they moved the ball and create, not big chances, but create some attacking football and, for a long time, the game was still open at 2-0 but I’m very happy with the attitude.

Tottenham Hotspur continues good run after beating Aston Villa 2-0

Coach Pochettino shares his satisfaction: “Villa had good organisation and made it difficult for us but I’m very pleased because we showed a solid performance. It’s true it wasn’t our best game but it’s always difficult for the players who are not involved regularly, they had the chance to play today, many played 90 minutes and fantastic, I’m pleased with them all. I’m happy because it was a great opportunity for those players to show their quality and push the level in the team.”
