The gunners defeat the toffees at Goodison park 2-1

In what could be described as a solid display by Wengers Arsenal against an improving Everton outfit, many a fan left satisfied unknowing Chelsea would slip on Sunday leaving just 2 points between the top two. The game itself was fairly understated. The opening goal was scored by an unlikely player, Sagna. It was only the second goal ever for the Arsenal full back who blasted the ball into the net 10 minutes before the break. To be fair to Everton it should have been all level at the break, yet Wenger must have been delighted with the lead.

The second half started excellently for the gunners with some neat play leading to a nice finish by the Arsenal captain Fabregas on 47 minutes. The game was as good as over and the Gunners could have added to the goals. Everton offered nothing in reply. And it wasn’t until the 89th minute that Cahill got what turned out to be a consolation goal for the home side.

A pretty average game entertainment wise on sunday. Arsenal didn’t exactly play the flowing football that Gunners fans are used to yet it worked. I think this an interesting point actually. Arsenal have the luxury to play sweet passing football at the Emirates. However away from home a different style of football is required. At Everton we saw proof of that with some battling performances from the likes of Nasri and Song. Sagna admitted after the game that their away form is the missing ingredient in them winning the league. I agree completely. If the Gunners continue with this battling attitude then a title win could be possible.
