Cavani Stays Quiet over Future

Edinson Cavani refused to discuss his future after the striker’s Uruguayan side saw their Confederations Cup campaign come to an end with a penalty shoot-out defeat to Italy in the third-place playoff.

The Napoli striker has been making headlines throughout the transfer window following a season in which he scored 37 goals for the Serie A side, with Chelsea, Real Madrid, and Manchester City all linked with a move for Cavani before the new European season gets underway.

Cavani has a much-publicised £54million buy-out clause in his contract with the Serie A club, and Napoli still hope that will keep the striker in Italy with them and out of the clutches of Europe’s giants.

But there are still reports from the live football commentary suggesting the Uruguayan will ask his club to let him leave for the right price, with Chelsea apparently in the box-seat to sign the 26-year old.

With the transfer window now open, Europe’s big clubs are now expected to start their business ahead of the new season.

It’ll be extremely interesting to see just where the forward begins next season. And in the wake of the defeat to Italy, in which the striker scored twice in the match that finished 2-2 after extra-time, Cavani refused to discuss any talk of his club future.

“Everything I say at the moment could be misunderstood, so I prefer not to talk about the future. I’m going on holiday with my family and then I will come back to Italy to consider the whole situation,” said Cavani.

After appearing to struggle with the expectation on his shoulders for much of the Confederations Cup, Cavani reminded fans who bet on football as to just what he is capable of with two stunning goals in the defeat to Italy; a nicely taken first followed up with an unstoppable free kick.
