Scottish players around history are known for their stamina and will to success. However, it is really surprising and ultimately mysterious to know that Scotland who brought players like Kenny Dalglish, Archie Gemmill, Billy Bremner, Joe Jordan, Peter Lorimer, Martin Buchan, Paul McStay, Ally McCoist, Alan Hansen, Dennis Law and Co has never qualified for the second round in world cups??? This is astonishing despite having fairly good squads: The Scottish team always failed to improve and never reached the second round. We cannot provide one set of answers: for example in 1978, despite winning against the Dutch 3-2: Archie Gemill (2) and Joe Jordan, Scotland lost to Peru and drew with Iran??? They won against the favorites and lost to average and less than average teams. In 1990, the Scottish team won against Sweden: 2-1 ( Stuart Mc Call and Maurice Johnstone), however, they lost to Costa Rica and Brazil. The problem of consistency was a major problem that encountered the Tartan Army. Nowadays, Scotland does not possess a string squad, however, in case there will be one: Are they going to qualify to the next world cup and make it to the second round? Let us wait and see.
