Serie A week 7 wrap-up

Napoli signed a 7th straight win to start the season and leads Serie A with two points behind Inter. Juventus was held to a draw at Atalanta [2-2] and left points this season for the first time. AC Milan fell at home to AS Roma

Napoli 3-0 Cagliari

Marek Hamsik scored another and is one goal way from legend Diego Maradona. His reaction:

Yes, I am happy, first or later I’ll achieve this goal, but what most interests to me is that we won our seventh consecutive match and that we are doing great so far. To win 7 games on 7 is a lot, our commitment is massive to keep on this track. We don’t hide, we are aware of our potentialities and we want to fight to stay on top till the end.

Now there’s the break for the National teams, then we’ll have a very demanding October. It could be a decisive month for the future of this season and we’ll give the most to keep on this positive streak”

Atalanta 2-2 Juventus

Coach Allegri is overall happy to bring back a point from a very good team:

“We could have won but we risked allowing them to break at the end. We shouldn’t have done that because the point we’ve earned tonight might be important in the long run. Our mistake was in giving the cross away, plus for the first goal we should have reacted better after [Gigi] Buffon’s save. It’s a shame because we’ve dropped two important points and deserved to win on the basis of our performance.”

Benevento 1-2 Inter Milan

Inter coach Spaletti on the first couple month into the season:

“We’re proud of what we’re doing, nobody has given us anything. We’re where we deserve to be but we certainly know that we need to improve in certain situations. There are moments in matches where our concentration drops off and we make basic mistakes but we had the right attitude on the pitch today because we couldn’t go to Benevento assuming we’d already won. We controlled the play and created a lot, then we had to find the third goal but Benevento scored instead.”

AC Milan 0-2 AS Roma

Milan Coach Montella:

“Tactically, this has been our best game. We are disappointed with the result, it could have been a turning point. We weren’t lucky, it could have ended in a different way. I have nothing to reproach the boys for and I want to thank the fans at San Siro for the big applause after the final whistle. Borini? He always makes himself available, he played a good game, showing great spirit.

We lacked a bit of ‘madness’ in front of goal. We lacked those moves that could have shook their defense. We didn’t react after the goal for 0-1? It was a cold shower, but we tried to bounce back. With the red card shown to Calhanoglu, the team lost cohesion.”
