Manchester-England: Roberto Mancini made two changes to the side that defeated Salzburg on Thursday evening by recalling Micah Richards and James Milner to the starting eleven in replace of Wayne Bridge and Jo.

The Blues had never won a Premiership game at the DW Stadium and were determined to finally end their woeful run of results at this ground.

However, many of the travelling faithful were frustrated with their side early in the first half as Mancini’s men were sloppy; misplacing passes and creating very few chances. Just as both sides looked content to finish the first half all square, City broke the deadlock. Joe Hart’s hopeful punt up field was completely misjudged by the Wigan defence and Tevez latched onto the ball before chipping the ball over the goalkeeper. The Argentine is in fine form at the moment with three goals in five league games.

Wigan started the second half brightly but came up against a resilient City defence. The Latics  were therefore restricted to long range efforts which failed to trouble a side that have only conceded two goals so far in the league this season.

City continued to look for a second goal and soon enough Carlos Tevez was on hand to pounce on a mistake from a shaky home defence. Wigan failed to clear leaving Tevez to loft the ball across the six yard box for Yaya Toure to grab his first goal for the Blues.

A comfortable 2-0 win means Manchester City move up to fourth place and sit just three points behind their rivals Manchester United.
