Klose justifies his nomination resulting of a good performance.
Germany showed the best performance of all teams of this World Cup so far. Joachim Löw trusted in a Bayern Munich block of five players including Lahm, Schweinsteiger, Klose, Müller and Badstuber.
The German representatives dominated the entire game after a good start of Australia including a big chance for Garcia in the fourth minute. Klose failed to score against Schwarzer after seven minutes, but immediately after this chance was Podolski the first player of the German squad who outsmarted the Australian goalkeeper. Furthermore, the team of the captain Lahm worked out some great opportunities hereinafter, but neither Klose nor Özil used these chances to score. Klose used a genius cross of Lahm for a stunning header and scored his first goal in this World Cup to a 2:0 half-time lead. (27’) Herewith Joachim Löw proved the critics wrong, who called Klose out-of-date.
