Villa Rescue A Point Against Rivals

Aston Villa came from two goals down against West Brom to pick up a point in the West Midlands derby on Monday evening.

The Baggies looked to be on course for victory following two early goals from Shane Long. However, Karim El Ahmadi hit back with a volley midway through the second half before Ashley Westwood earned his side a point.

Steve Clarke’s men could have been further clear at the interval as they dominated the opening 45 minutes. They missed several chances to add to their tally and had to settle for just the two goals.

Long took just three minutes to break the deadlock when he found the back of the net from 18 yards. His second arrived not long after. This time he was able to chip Villa ‘keeper, Brad Guzan, after taking advantage of a poor pass from Leandro Bacuna.

It was only after Paul Lambert made a triple substitution that his side started getting back into the game, much to the relief of fans who bet on football.

The introduction of Andreas Weimann, Gabriel Agbonlahor and Fabian Delph helped the visitors as they managed to repeat last season’s scoreline in the same corresponding fixture.

Both sides remain level on points in the league table, with just goal difference keeping West Brom above their local rivals.

The Baggies face a trip up north to Newcastle on Saturday before hosting Manchester City at the Hawthorns the following Wednesday.

Villa, on the other hand, will now prepare for a home tie with Sunderland, who are currently rooted bottom of the standings. That will come four days before they are on the road again, this time to Southampton who have started their campaign really well, despite a defeat at the weekend to one of the favourites for the title in the football betting, Arsenal.
