Spurs Survive to Scare Off Tigers

Tottenham needed penalties to see off Hull last night to reach the last eight of the Capital One Cup where they will now take on West Ham at White Hart Lane.

At 8-7 in favour of Spurs, Hull’s Ahmed Elmohamady’s spot-kick was saved by Brad Friedel to give the North London club the win.

Despite an early football betting outlook that favoured Spurs, the two sides could not be seperated after 90 minutes of normal time, or after an added half-hour of extra-time.

When Gylfi Sigurdsson opened the scoring for Andre Vilas-Boas’ men inside the first-half, it looked like it was going to be a comfortable evening for the hosts.

However, Friedel suffered an embarrassing moment when he fumbled the ball into his own goal to bring the scores level.

In extra-time, Paul McShane gave the Tigers the lead and left them on the verge of a big upset. Just under 10 minutes later though, Harry Kane equallised to force penalties and keep Tottenham’s hope of Capital One Cup glory alive.

It was Spurs’ second success over Hull in a week. They had beaten Steve Bruce’s side in the Premier League on Saturday in what was also a tight tussle decided by a Roberto Soldado spot-kick later in the second-half.

West Ham made it through to the quarter-final of the League Cup after a 2-0 victory away to Burnley at Turf Moor on Tuesday evening.

Goals from Matt Taylor and Jack Collison, both penalties, helped them to get past the Championship side who did have plenty of chances against the Hammers.

The tie, which is included in bet365’s in-play bet offer, is expected to take place on the week commencing December 16 as the two teams will be looking for a spot in the semi-finals which are played over two legs.
