Sigurdsson Confident of Spurs Recovery

Gylfi Sigurdsson insists Tottenham Hotspur remain in a good position to bring Champions League football back to White Hart Lane despite an untimely dip in form.

Spurs ensured they headed into the international break on the back of successive Premier League defeats. Dimitar Berbatov came back to haunt his former employers a week on from the 3-2 loss to Liverpool at Anfield, a result which ended Spurs’ 12-match unbeaten league run.

Tottenham have lost three games in a row in all, though Thursday’s 4-1 reverse at Inter Milan did not end their Europa League bid. The north London club reached the last eight on the away goals rule.

The weekend’s results mean rivals Arsenal sit only four points behind Andre Villas-Boas’ side in the race for a top-four spot, with a game in hand.

Sigurdsson has called for a reaction from Spurs when they resume league action against Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium on March 30.

“We just need to pick ourselves up, stay together and perform well until the end of the season,” the Iceland international said.

“It is in our hands and we are in a good position to make sure we get the Champions League spot. We showed during the season that we are more than capable.”

Sigurdsson feels fatigue played a part in Sunday’s shock defeat at home to Fulham. However, he said Spurs will not dwell on that as they aim to rediscover the form which has left them on the brink of Europe’s elite competition.

“The lads can pick themselves up. We have got the determination to get into the Champions League,” Sigurdsson added.
“We showed at Arsenal at home that we can beat anyone here so there will be a good few games coming up and hopefully we can get a few points.”

With a kind pairing at last in the Europa League, Spurs are enjoying favourable odds for the crown at http://betting.betfair.com/football/europa-league/.
