Marveaux ready for derby test

Newcastle winger Sylvain Marveaux admits his side are still in danger of going down ahead of next weekend’s derby with Sunderland.

After finishing fifth last season, the Magpies were expected to challenge for the Champions League places this term but have really struggled to build any momentum and are now just five points clear of the relegation spots with six games left – something punters who bet on football have taken note of.

Next up for Alan Pardew’s men in the league is the Tyne-Wear derby against Sunderland, a game that has even more spice this time around due to the Black Cats also being in danger of the drop.

Marveaux has been one of the few bright spots for Newcastle this term, establishing himself in the side, following an horrific first year in the North East that saw him regular on the sidelines due to a string of injuries.

Having played a key role in last Sunday’s win over Fulham, the Frenchman is again likely to start against the Black Cats and is desperate to seal a vital three points.

“I don’t think we’re safe yet,” he told premier league betting news reporters. “It was good to get three points to have more confidence to be able to play with less stress and pressure, but we still have to carry on winning, especially at the weekend.

“We know how important the (Sunderland) game is for the club and the fans. The situation puts even more importance on this game.

“When we play at home, we play to win, it doesn’t matter what team we play. But on Sunday it will be a game we cannot lose, for the club, for the fans and to be able to finish the season with less pressure.”
