Weekday 25: Manchester 1-3 Leicester United

Leicester United sent a clear statment to the whole Premier League that they will fight until the end of the season to win the Premier League. The Foxies are now 5 points clear in front of Manchester City and 8 to Arsenal that is set to play tomorrow.

LCFC Coach Ranieri reacts after the win:

The spirit is fantastic but I’ve said this from my first moment here in Leicester. There is a fantastic dressing room and on the pitch they help each other. They fight for each other and that is fantastic.

“We play with 11 on the pitch, every time. It’s not easy. It’s the best spirit I remember in my career, as well as when I was a footballer.

“It was a good performance for us but difficult because when you play against a team like City with their fantastic players it’s not easy.
We were very concentrated though and we wanted to try to win without pressure. Just enjoy the match, but try to do our best. I think the first goal was very good for our confidence. Then we closed all the space because we played very concentrated and determined the entire match.  We know it’s a crazy league. We have to try in this crazy league but there are some big teams who have to win. We enjoy of course and we want to fight, but without pressure. For us it’s important to play and continue in this way because it’s a strange league.
We are alive and we want to fight. We go to Arsenal next and I hope we will concentrate as well as we have in the last two matches and continue our dream.”
On the opposite side coach Pellegrini, who will leave at the end of the season to be replaced by Guardiola from Bayern Munich, laments the poor performance:

“I think we didn’t defend well because they had other chances. I don’t complain about one action of the game. I just complain about the way we played today.

We had a chance to recover points at home, now we’re six points behind Leicester. Now we have 39 points more to play for. We must focus game by game and try to beat Spurs here. We will also see what happens between Arsenal and Leicester. So many things can happen.

In football, things change from one week to another. We’re not in our best moment – we have just 14 players fit and we’re playing a lot of games. We need to recover as soon as we can from this defeat.

“If Leicester continue playing the way they are of course [they are favourites]. There are 13 games more so it’s difficult to make a prediction on the future.
