City best by a Country Mile – Sherwood

Tottenham Hotspur manager, Tim Sherwood, has hailed Manchester City as the Premier League champions-elect following their 5-1 victory at White Hart Lane.

The win for Manuel Pellegrini’s men leapfrogged them above Arsenal, who could only draw with Southampton yesterday, and put clear water between them and Chelsea in third. According to Sherwood, who captained Blackburn Rovers to the title back in 1995, the Premier League crown is theirs to lose.

“They worked us all over the pitch and attack from all angles and this team are the best team in the league by a country mile,” the 44 year old said. “Without question, in my opinion this is the champions of the league,” he added.

Having been part of the Spurs’ coaching team when they faced City earlier on in the season Sherwood – like many fans who bet on soccer games – was already well aware of what they were capable of, but he was powerless to stop their onslaught on Wednesday. Under Pellegrini, City have developed a real killer instinct, and despite seeing his side ship 11 goals to them this season, Sherwood was full of praise for the way they play.

“Unfortunately for everyone they play, they don’t score one and shut up shop they keep coming at you and if anyone’s going to win the league you want a team like this to go on and do it because they entertain,” the former midfielder said.

There may still be 15 games to go this season but on the basis of City’s recent form it is difficult to argue with Sherwood’s assessment. Barring a significant number of injuries, or an unlikely return to their poor early-season away form, the latest soccer betting suggests that it is very difficult to see any other team in the league taking points from the Citizens.

Handing the Premier League trophy back to Manchester United at the end of last season may have broken a few City hearts but, if Pellegrini’s team keep playing like this, it won’t be long before the title is back at the Etihad.
