A bad point for both Arsenal and Manchester City

Premier League week 29: Arsenal 2-2 Manchester City

The draw is bad result for both Arsenal and Manchester City. Arsenal had lost its last two games and needed a win to get back on track in the League. Sitting at the 6th spot and trailing Manchester City by 7 points for the Champions League berth, it seems unlikely the Gunners will play with the best of Europe next year, it would be the first time in over two decades.

Man City is stagnating with a third consecutive draw and missed another chance to close the gap on leader Chelsea who lost at home.

Arsenal Coach Wenger reacts:

“Overall, yes 2-2 was a fair result. You could see that we played with a bit of nerves as we started the game in a nervous way. Our confidence was not at its highest. Today was a real mental test about how united we are and how ready we are for a fight.

“Could we respond when we were a goal down against Manchester City who are very dangerous in the transitions? On the mental front it was a very positive response from our team. I hope and I’m sure it will help us to restart with more confidence in the next games.

“We were 2-1 down having just conceded a goal before half-time. There’s no worse moment mentally than that but we responded well in the second half. I felt the team deserved a point today. Mathematically it was not the best operation but mentally for the end of our season, it was an important point.”

Man City coach Guardiola:

“We played much better in the second half. After we scored the opening goal we forgot to play. The second half we started to complete more passes, creating more chances.”

On the title race Guardiola added: “Today wasn’t the perfect performance but there are still a lot of games left. Chelsea lost yesterday and it was disappointing not to take all three points today.”
