Ligue 1 week 10: Olympique Marseille 2-2 Paris Saint-Germain

The French Classique was of great drama last night in southern France. Marseille came into the game with a fierce desire to beat down their rival undefeated so far in all competitions.

It did not take long for OM and Luis Gustavo to take the lead in this game. But PSG quickly responded by Neymar. Marseille and PSG were less aggressive in the second half until Thauvin surged to score the second goal from a cross from the right.  Neymar saw his first red card in Ligue 1 after he was not able to control his nerves and booked with a second yellow card. And Cavani at the last second scored a wonderful direct free kick and save a point for Paris. It was an exciting night for the fans and a great show.

Coach PSG Emery on the draw:

“In the first half, they scored from their only chance. Our side reacted after the goal. We had good chances to score. As the minutes ticked down in the second half, the rhythm was average. On the pitch, the players who are important to the spectacle should be protected.

After 90 minutes, play was stopped a lot by the referee. There were fouls and not much rhythm, just the spectacle. After the second Marseille goal, it was tough for us. After the sending off, it got even tougher. The draw shows our character. There was a clear penalty for us that was not awarded. It was a clear goal-scoring chance for Kylian”

Cavani on his goal:

“It was an important goal because the match was almost over. We needed it; it’s as simple as that. It’s tough to play here in this electric atmosphere. The road is long and there are a lot of competitions. We need to keep working. Fear of defeat? That’s football. Every match is tough. You can win or lose. We need to give everything out on the pitch. You have to be able to leave the pitch wit your head held high.”
