Liga BBVA – FC Barcelona 2-1 Real Madrid

Coach Luis Enrique gives all credit to his players:

“This was a nice win tonight and something for the fans to enjoy” he said. “But although it was important, it was not decisive.” Although it means moving four points clear of Real Madrid, the Barça manager insists that “we are where we wanted to be, but we can’t relax because we could drop points in any game”.

“I’m very happy with what I’m experiencing” he continued. “The players knew how to suffer against the current European champions. This was a difficult match and all credit to them for winning it. I am very satisfied with their work”.

“Luis Suárez played very well. Top football. We are very happy to see how decisive he is. He has done so many good things for the team since he came here”

“We’re talking about a forward who knows how to relate to his team-mates, who can shoot, who is physically tough and who has the right kind of character for the way we play. He’s a great complement for his colleagues”

“We like to keep hold of the ball and defend as far away from our goal as we can. But the opposition is playing too. If we can’t play the way we want to, we have to adapt our style. We were up against a very tricky opponent”.

“It was a very complete game between perhaps the two strongest attacking teams in the world”

On Barça’s play

“Our approach was the same in both halves. The problem is that in the first half we struggled to create pressure, but the second half started better for us. The goal calmed us down and from then on we had several chances to get another one”

“The idea behind my changes was to gain us more possession of the ball and create more space. We wanted to make it 3-1 because of the head-to-head but at the same time, we didn’t want to risk them drawing. We were more accurate with our pressure towards the end, and it’s a pity we weren’t able to convert any more chances”
